I loved him most for his horror portrayals. Such a great fit for Dracula, and one of the creepier ones in history. Godspeed

The man was a greater legend acting in his 80s than most in their 30s. I regret that I can’t think of any other actors active today of his type, short of possibly Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, and both are, of course, also elderly. It will be a pity if future generations have nobody to play a grim, imposing role with conviction.

Completely underutilized in the Star Wars prequels. Great actor.

He truly was one of the greatest actors of our time. James Earl Jones, Christopher Walken, Morgan Freeman, and Anthony Hopkins are pretty damn great as well. It’s definitely a bummer to lose yet another of the greats; we’ve already lost Leonard Nimoy, Robin Williams, Joan Rivers, David Carradine, and so many others. As one actor once said when Marlon Brando died, “Well, I guess we all move up a rank.” I guess they get to move up a rank again.

There are some great stories about him on the LoTR commentary and interviews:

From Peter Jackson’s DVD commentary: “When I was shooting the stabbing shot with Christopher, as a director would, I was explaining to him what he should do… And he says, ‘Peter, have you ever heard the sound a man makes when he’s stabbed in the back?’ And I said, ‘Um, no.’ And he says ‘Well, I have, and I know what to do.’”

The crew said that they knew Christopher Lee had been in the British Royal Air Force Intelligence Service in World War Two, and they didn’t really push him for more information about how he knew in such detail exactly what noise a person makes when this is done to them.

He wouldn’t have told them anyway.

When pressed by an eager interviewer on his SAS past, he leaned forward and whispered: “Can you keep a secret?”

“Yes!” the interviewer replied, breathless with excitement.

“So can I.” replied a smiling Lee, sitting back in his chair.

He had Yoda on the ropes and imprisoned Gandolf, I give him mad props for that. I had no idea he was the man with the golden gun.

Unrelated to anything but the “actors of impressive age” slate and our out-of-nowhere Good Burger title this morning, Abe Vigoda remains alive at *94*.

281 movie credits on IMDB. Actors of his generation worked . Nowadays, actors make a lifetime of money for one film. I recently watched The Wicker Man . What a strange, disturbing film. I can’t say I enjoyed it, but I couldn’t stop watching.

I don’t believe he’s dead. He’s just lying low before the villagers with pitchforks get too annoying.

He even did a good job in (in my opinion) one of the worst James Bond films: The Man With the Golden Gun . “Nick Nack, Tabasco!”

What, Lee has passed away! That’s very sad. This was a depressing Thursday to begin with and now it’s even worse.
